Despite it being reasonably close to home, it seems that I only get to visit once a year at most. This year my visit coincided with the return to service of ex-GWR 4575 class 2-6-2T no. 5541. I had the pleasure of a footplate experience day on this locomotive as a 50th birthday present back in the mists of time!
I have to say that 5541 looks fantastic, newly out-shopped in lined BR green livery. On top of that, BR class 14 diesel no. D9555, the last loco built at Swindon Works, was also in action. This locomotive actually saw service in the Forest of Dean during its brief BR career.
