The prospect of two steam hauled specials departing from Bristol Temple Meads within twenty minutes of each other was too good to miss. The first train was the Royal Duchy, hauled by ex-SR Bulleid Battle of Britain class 4-6-2 no. 34067 Tangmere, seen at the level crossing in Hewish, accelerating hard after its call at Yatton station. This was soon followed by the Torbay Express, headed by ex-LNER A4 class 4-6-2 no. 4464 Bittern. As the latter train was scheduled for a lengthy water stop at Taunton, I was able to see it a second time passing Allerford on its outward journey to Kingswear. The final sequence sees the A4 on its return journey as it approaches Allerford level crossing in the early evening.
