The weather was awful, but you've just got to make the best of an early start to the day when a pair of Black Fives are in the offing. The Railway Touring Company's excursion, The Christmas Cheshireman from Bristol to Chester, is first seen passing Severn Tunnel Junction in heavy rain at 08:00 and again a little over an hour later while making a steady ascent of Llanvihangel bank in only slightly better conditions. Ex-LMS Black Five 4-6-0s nos. 44871 and 45407 ably substituted for the originally rostered 34067 Tangmere.
