I was able to call in at the Great Central Railway on Bank Holiday Monday 25th August 2008, on my way home after a weekend with friends in the area. Not because the line had a Thomas event that weekend, but because A1SLT newbuild A1 class No. 60163, which had been undergoing running-in at the GCR, was in steam. I had to wait until early evening, when the public had gone home, before I got to see the locomotive without the smokebox face it had been obliged to wear during the day.
